Dr. Sachs' discovery of titanium, for use in nasal reconstruction is so revolutionary that it as been patented. Not only does titanium nasal reconstruction improve the patient's appearance, but titanium's ability to restructure the nose allows for improved physiologic function (ability to breathe and smell). Titanium has been used in the as a support structure for other parts of the body, yet Dr. Sachs has been the first to reveal the amazing uses for titanium in repairing noses that have been damaged by trauma, cancer or previously performed nasal surgeries.

Documented in recently published textbook, "Mastering Revision Rhinoplasty," published by Springer-Verlag (New York, New York) Dr. Sachs explores the breakthrough uses of titanium in noses that have lost support, collapsed after previous surgeries and in some cases warrant more than just routine rhinoplasty. According to Dr. Sachs, "titanium is a perfect structural implant entity, as it is extremely lightweight yet very strong and virtually non-reactive, meaning it will not cause problems such as infection or rejection once placed within the body."

Titanium is fabricated on the operating table, customizing the structural needs specifically to each patient. Additionally, titanium can be molded externally as well. "The basic manipulation is performed internally during the procedure, yet weeks later the titanium may be re-adjusted for fine tuning, explains Dr. Sachs." "Some patients may want their noses rotated a little higher or lower, and titanium allows the surgeons to do this up to several months after the initial operation by just external manipulation of the implant."

In the past several other types of substances have been used including the body's own cartilage, bone and tissue. These natural implants have a tendency to get broken down by the body and re-absorbed. Titanium, on the other hand, maintains its strength, is permanent, and is extremely light and thin. The other natural materials can be heavier, bulky, and difficult to manipulate.
